Bangs and Virgin ?Hmmmm ...
Okay, let's get deadly serious here.
There's a peak standing all by itself
(without any other ridges or peaks around it) that I'm having TROUBLE identifying.
I saw it the final day of 2010 from the
Northshore Drive, on my way to the east
entrance of Valley of Fire State Park.
Is there a "solitary" peak at the same
elevation as Mormon and Bangs, somewhere
between the Virgins and Lake Mead ???
Geez, another mystery to add to my list!
Did you notice how much "higher" these
mountains look with snow on them ?

Re: Bangs and Virgin ?I'm wondering if you were looking at Northshore Mtn or Jumbo Peak? I've never been out there but those are two of the ones that might qualify.
I think the snow does make both Virgin and Bangs more noticeable from the Mesquite side where they provide a dramatic backdrop.

Re: Bangs and Virgin ?I'm going to take a risk and go with Jumbo
Peak. It does look quite big and noticeable
from the "Redstone" area (off of Northshore Drive) looking toward the E by NE.
Yes, I'll be posting a photograph shortly ..
Mormon also looks quite incredible from the
Valley of Fire side in the winter!

Re: Bangs and Virgin ?Dean, I just got done looking at the map.
The only OTHER peak it might be is Billy Goat Peak.

Re: Bangs and Virgin ?DAH... I think I'll pull a Homer Simpson on
this one, and say "I don't know."
I guess the upper 1/3 is shaped like Billy Goat. Hmmm ...
