Sinca primeval forest

Situated at the northern hillside of Ţaga massif, Codrul Secular Şinca (RO) is the most representative undisturbed primeval forest in the northern cline of the Southern Carpathians. Since 2017, it has been inscribed to the UNESCO World Heritage List. Altitudinal range varies between 790-1400 m and its area is about 340 ha. This pristine woodland is famous for remarkable size of trees, sheltering the tallest silver fir tree in Romania, at 62,5 m and one of the tallest beech specimens in Europe, at 55 m. Recent dendrochronological analyses found trees more than 500 years old! .
