Approach

Take I-15 exit 349 (Farr West) and head east towards North Ogden. Follow the signs leading to North Ogden Pass. There is a large parking area on the south side. Cross the road and follow the trail north to climb Ben Lomond (south leads up Lewis Peak along the Skyline Trail).

Route Description

This hike begins by switchbacking up the south slopes for a couple of miles. As you climb higher you get a nice view of Pineview Reservoir to the east. The trail then turns and follows the east side of the ridge with Ben Lomond still hidden from view (but be sure to look back for nice views of Lewis Peak and Mt. Ogden). After another two miles, the trail crosses over to the west side where you see Ben Lomond Peak for the first time.

It looks close, but you'll hike for another two miles (with abundant wildflowers in summer) and not seem to gain much ground on the peak. Eventually you arrive at the junction with the North Fork Park trail at 8,794 feet. It is just under a thousand feet to the summit. The trail zig-zags back and forth up the summit cone, and patches of snow linger into mid-June most years.

It is about eight miles each way to Ben Lomond Peak, and the climb is 3,500 vertical feet.

Essential Gear

No particular gear needed. Long hike, bring adequate food and water.
