The couloir is AKA Snow Couloir and Spoon Couloir.

Approach

From Lupine Meadows at 6732' (see mainpage), take the Valley Trail for 1.7 miles and the well-maintained Amphitheater Lake trail for 4 switchbacking miles to the lake. The route is now apparent.

Route Description

From various points in the valley, the white stripe of this couloir beckons. Circle the lake to the obvious couloir and ascend directly to the summit slopes. It's probably not a friendly place after the summer snowpack has melted. It's fairly wide and it does avalanche in unstable conditions. It is frequently skied. From the top of the couloir the summit plateau is climbed to the summit block.

Essential Gear

Crampons, axe.
