Approach

Route 1 on the map.

This is the classical climb to Klek summit. Because it is easy to approach it by paved road this route is used by the most of weekend excursionists. This climb to Klek is also the shortest and fastests one.

Start of the route is from the village Bjelsko (625 m) actually a hamlet of nearby Potok Musulinski village. Bjelsko is situated along the road Ogulin-Jasenak (Bjelolasica tourist center), 12 km from Ogulin.

Route Description

Bjelsko-Mountain house-the summit of Klek: (1 h-1 h 15min)

a) From Bjelsko to Klek mountain house – 45 min

The route starts from an abandoned forester´s house in the western part of Bjelsko. The beginning of the route is well marked, and there is also a table with the information whether the Klek Mountan house is open. There is also enough place to park your car here.
The trail to the top is difficult to miss because it is well marked and also along the way to the top you will see large information tables on local vegetation-habitats (flora of meadows, plants of dinaric-illyrian forest, protected species etc.).

From the forester´s house you walk first 200 meters along a non-paved forest road, and then turn left to small shortcut untill you cross over the same forest road and continue into wood again. After few minutes you get onto a larger meadow, cross over it and enter again into wood where you start a steep climb along eastern and southerm slopes of Klek.
As youre getting height the wood becames thiner and after 10 minutes before the trail turns left course, you will notice that another trail comes from west direction (your right side) and joins yours from Bjelsko. This is where routes 2 (Ogulin-Kneja route) and 4 (Puskarici route) join your Bjelsko route and they all continue together further to Klek summit.

After you pass small straight part with two benches and first vistas of Velika Kapela group on your left side, and after two sharp curves you get onto a ridge with lower vegetation The route then conttinues straight along the ridge to the Klek mountain house, which is exactly at 1,000 m alt.

b) From Klek mountain house to the summit of Klek – 20-30 min

The path for the summit starts at western side of the House (left side), keeping the altitude for some time, passing under Klek´s western rock (a small cave along the way could be seen). After 5-10 minutes, and a small climb under a large rock there is a crossroad. If you continue straight you will reach Klecice (in 35 min). By using the trail to the right just bellow the vertical rock you will continue to Klek summit. The trail here is steep (there are also some stony steps built into difficult terrain). From before-mentioned crossroad there is about 15 minutes to the summit of Klek. After the steep climb and some sharp curves you pass some tablets with the names of alpinists died trying to climb up Klek´s rock. You then get onto meadows and small plateaus, pass the helicopter pad and finally you reach the Klek summit (1,181 m).
