Route Description
Red Trail
Elevation Gain 700 ft.
Distance 0.9 miles
The Red Trail is very similiar to the Green Trail steepness and distance. What makes the Red Trail different from the Green Trail is that the Red Trail has better footing then the Greem and is much less slippery. The Read Trail begins the same way that the Blue and Green Trails begin; at the carriage road. The Red trail is the second right from the split of the trails. The trail begins at a moderate pitch and like the green trail alternates between moderate and steeper pitches. The trail continues to the summit fire tower where good views can be seen of the Lakes Region.
Essential Gear
Only essential hiking gear is needed on this trail during summer. In winter the entire route to the top of Belknap Mountain is much longer due to the road closing so bring good winter clothing as well as crampons and snowshoes.
