Approach


To access Pilot Peak from the Boise, Idaho Air Terminal, access Interstate 84-east until reaching the signed exit for Idaho 21. Follow this road roughly thirty miles to the old mining town of Idaho City.

From Idaho City, it is a winding 13 mile drive to Mores Creek Summit. The road to the summit can be found on the south side of the large parking area on the west side of Idaho 21.

    From the parking area, cross the highway and gain the obvious snow covered road that first angles west and then swings north and parallels the western slopes of Pilot Peak. Chances are, snow machines and other skiiers will have already been to the summit to breaking a trail should not be a problem.

    Follow this curvy and scenic path a little more than 3 miles to 7,804' on the shoulder of Pilot Peak's west ridge. Here, follow your topo maps to the east through the forest and to the summit. Minor avalanche danger is presented along portions of this trail but should only be a problem during very unstable conditions.
