Overview

Grazer Bergland is the mountainous area north of Graz. The area is well known by climbers and offers several hundreds climbing routes.

Grazer Bergland is part of Randgebirge östlich der Mur (other parts are Fischbacher Alpen with Stuhleck, Wechsel and Semmering).
Grazer Bergland  

The river Mur is the westward border between Graz and Mixnitz. Breitenauer Tal is the northern border. The northeast and east border are Feistritztal and Fladnitztal. The southern borders are diffuse and changes to the Oststeirisches Hügelland.

  • Hochlantsch (1720 m)
  • Rote Wand (1505 m)
  • Schöckl (1445 m)

Getting There and Places to Stay

The part near the Austrian Southern Railway branch lines (Bruck/Mur to Graz)can easily be reached by public transport.

Several B+Bs and Hotels in small towns

Red Tape

Some parts of the climbing areas near Bärenschützklamm are closed from January to beginning of July.

Some routes at Rote Wand are closed due to breeding birds.

Carpark Rote Wand - overnight parking prohibited.
