Basic Info

Kasha-Katuwe Tent Rocks National Monument is a fantastic resource of easy to moderate hiking trails. Beautiful slot canyons and hoodoos make up the majority of the trail. The 1 1/2 mile Canyon Trail ends with a steep ascent, but it is well worth the climb to the ridge. The monument is managed by BLM. There is ample parking, picnic areas (including grills), and restroom facilities. This is an easily accessible area, nice weather and weekends make it a great family spot, and it does get crowded. If you want more solitude in your explorations, come mid-week.

****It was announced yesterday that this area willl be closed July-August 2010 in order to pave the 5 mile dirt road that leads from Cochiti Pueblo to the Tent Rocks area (not the best time to visit anyway...hotter that hell!)

Parking and Facilities

The monument is managed by BLM. There is ample parking, picnic areas (including grills), and restroom facilities. There is a $5 fee.

Things To Remember

Check the weather, it is a land of extremes at times. Thunderstorms and flashfloods are not uncommon in summer. It can get brutally hot in July and August. Have plenty of water, sunscreen and a hat. Snow is very common in winter. Layered dressing is your best bet.

Re: Great!

Thank you so much for that Eric. It is a fabulous (albeit small in scale) place.

Need to reorganize...

There is a good page on the Tent Rocks. It would work better if you detached this page from the National Monuments (the original Tent Rocks page is there already) and reattach your page to the current canyon page.

Re: Need to reorganize...

Thanks, Bubba. I tried to figure out the best way to link this. When I searched for Tent Rocks I didn't get anything so I will try again. Since it is a National Monument I guess I could leave it here too.

Parents

Parents refers to a larger category under which an object falls. For example, theAconcagua mountain page has the 'Aconcagua Group' and the 'Seven Summits' asparents and is a parent itself to many routes, photos, and Trip Reports.
