Sunrise on Borah Peak

So I am more of a sport climber, but my crazy friend Doug has been trying to summit the high points of all 50 states. So when he asked me to make the trip to Borah Peak I was pretty excited thinking about a true summit, as usually the pinnacle of my climb is some rusty chains.

We left October 11th 2010 from Spokane Washington and made the drive to Idaho, then Montana, and then back to Idaho. Arriving at the trailhead later that afternoon we did a quick scout run to see what the trail was like and went to bed early. It was our plan to start at 3AM so we could be near the summit for the sunrise. The long shadows and morning sky were brilliant as we ate our breakfast at the end of Chicken Out Ridge.

We finally made it to the summit and it was one of the most rewarding things I have accomplished. The beauty of eastern Idaho was much more than I expected.
