Walberla

Walberla

I'm not sure if people climb also on this tower, but besides being a cult place for Franken, the area of Walberla is also a climbing area. February, 2008.

They have done

and I also have climbed this pittoresque tower once through its valley side, a thrilling UIAA V climb of appr. 12 m.
Now, since long ago, this is forbidden.

Thanks for posting, Vid!
(The image should actually be tilted a bit to the right, so that the plateau in the background (Hetzles) becomes horizontal).

You have been there quite recently, I see. Where else have you been?

Re: They have done

Hi, Reinhard!

With my wife we were just driving around this part of Germany, mainly sightseeing. Beautiful towns, some fine places of nature, we drove up to Erfurt and Eisenach, where we visited Bach's museum. So, no mountaineering, except this quich jump on Walberla.

Cheers!
Vid

Re: They have done

Hi Vid,

I'm glad to see you liked it!
I've also been to Slovenia several times, notably in the region Cerknisko jezero - Naravni Most - Postojna -Predjama. Loved it, too - very beautiful scenery and nice people.
Also Skocjanske jame is very impressive.

Cheers - Reinhard

Re: They have done

Glad to hear that :)

Were you also in Julian Alps? You must have been a good climber.

Re: They have done

Julian Alps - no, basically not, except for transiting and a short visit of Bled sea. My 1st visit to Slovenia was with a cave fanatic, and then later on with my family with small children - no opportunity for climbing.
And me as a climber - well I climbed a lot in Frankenjura up to grade VI until the mid-80ies, when due to job and family constraints a slow but steady decline set in. I've spent much less time in the Alps for rock climbing proper.
