"I don't have any personal beta on the route, and the climb beyond my ability. I could ask for it though, and I'll email it to you. "
Scott, that would be great (only if it's not too much hassle for you) - any beta would be very helpful.
"The road is easily class 5, and you can drive Salt Lake to Seattle faster than you can drive Salt Lake to Standing Rock (no joke)."
I fully believe that. I thought that the drive from CNP visitors' center to base of Washer Woman was loooooong (2hrs or so I think) and rough. And the access you describe is rougher and longer. Thank you very much - appreciate the beta on the drive in!! I had no idea you could drive into that area and the approaches I was looking at both started on the White Rim Rd. (one is to rap down from near overlook; the other is that closed off side road followed by a scramble down).
"Standing Rock looks similar to Hindu Tower which also known as Totem Pole on some maps, which is also refered to as a different tower next to it on other maps. "
That looks like a cool tower too. There's a TR on climbing it on www.piquaclimber.com. So much stuff to climb and do there....
"I assume the one you are refering to is the one at Canyon De Chelly? "
You're probably right. I think this is a picture of it here:

I see. That is a different Standing Rock; the one in Monument Basin. The one I was talking about is accross the river and in the Maze District.
Anyway, amoung the canyoneering croud and my partners, I have some beta on both and will email it to you.
cool (or should I say warm), very nice....of course you had to know I would love this page...particulary since I just came in from skiiing in -15C all day. Cheers

(also apparently featured in Eigher Sanction with Dirty Harry - have yet to see it).
"One of these days someone has got to come up with some sort of numbering system, Totem Pole #1, Standing Rock #2, etc!" Yup! I agree.
Thank you very much for the info. Scott.

Untitled CommentWhat kind of music is preferred by climbers? Ans:
Rap music. That is a great rappel view passing down through the window.
