You sure don't want to get mixed up with moose. I got charge by a bull moose up American Fork Canyon this past summer. It scared the crap out of me. Luckly the moose just false charged and turned around like five feet in front of me.
for the entertaining report! Are the Uintas pretty crowded or are there places to get away from everyone? I'm planning a trip to Rocky Mtn. Nat'l Park next September and wondering if Utah would be less crowded.
Ironically, the trail we were on is one of the most crowded in the Uintas, but with all of the reports of snow, it was keeping people away. There is plenty of solitude in the Uintas, but this is not the trail to find it.
an ice axe will not be necessary, unless you want to climb straight up the face. We did two long glissades and it would have been nice to have an axe, but probably not worth the weight. I just used my trekking poles for a brake. If you stick to the standard route, you will be fine without one, but I would take poles. As for the moose, they usually keep their distance and there are several in that area, so you will probably see some. Good luck and let me know if you have any other questions.

great TR"Re:Tard" gave me a good laugh ...
But seriously, great trip report. Our party of three will be there soon for Kings, and this helps.
I'm still wondering if an ice axe is necessary (and worth the extra weight), even if only for a glissade. Any input would be mucho appreciated.

BTWAnyone know if bear spray works on moose? Or are you just supposed to punch them in the nose like sharks? ;) I'm more scared of moose than bears.
