Great trip report and another epic to tell over and over again. What an adventure. You guys did a great job remaining calm and thinking things through. Way to go.
Excellent read. I brought back tonnes of memories. I cannot believe how the mining camp looks. Very scary. I once slept in one those houses. You did very well getting out of the area. Congratulations on your route finding. It can be a very lonely place on your own. Wets my appitite to get back there some day. Hopefully when things have settled down and the way in to the camp is repaired (if ever). Great photos and trip report. Cheers William
The mine workers were very lucky the flash flood hit in the day time. If at night, many would've died. We sometimes thought about the lagoon close to the refugio. That one is bound to collapse one day as well. That flood will be at least as rough as the one last year.
It's a lonely area, but that's one of the really nice aspects with it. The route finding was sometimes hard, as there was no one to ask after we had left the camp at the south face of Mercedario. And...we should've brought a map :-)
I know I'm a little slow in reading your trip reports (only took me a year this time!). You had me glued to the monitor here ... I hope I didn't get in trouble for spending too much time reading at work. ^_^
I'm really glad you two made it back safely. I look forward to reading another report from you and Nadine!!
Wow, such an adventure, I am glad your guys make it safe out.
I guess after so many years their is a more safe road to Mercedario's BC, I think its a beautiful place to wonder.
The road that was washed away is now repaired and access to Mercedario's normal route is easy. Thing is there's another huge lagoon in the area and if that one breaks it will be the same scenario all over again. Perhaps even worse as this one is larger than the one that flooded the area last time. I didn't feel comfortable walking below that lagoon last time I was there.

Re: EpicThanks Brad!
When I thought about making a raft, I didn't think things through very well :-)
Fortunately that idea never became reality.

Re: A bit late ...Thanks.
We're off for new adventures soon. The Tibetan high plateau and the peaks there are beckoning. Perhaps I'll write some stories about it later.
