World's Greatest Mountain Faces

World's Greatest Mountain Faces

Page Type Page Type: Album
Additional Information Image Type(s): Rock Climbing, Ice Climbing, Alpine Climbing

Around the world mountains usually present a face that requires more technics and more will to climb (north face of Eiger, south face of Aconcagua...) than its other faces or ridges.

These faces have been a genuine challenge and achievement for the first climbers, and for all mountaineers that have tried to ascend them since then.
For example in Europe we have the Alpine trilogy : Grandes Jorasses, Eiger and Matterhorn.

This album presents only Faces that required some real tough climbing unlike, for example, the north face of Barre des Ecrins.

Nice idea!

An album for dreaming - as I will never make the famous north faces in my life! They are too difficult!
Good idea!

Re: South Faces?

True indeed, Himalayan mountains offer a lot of technical climbing on their South Face. I also agree on South Face of Aconcagua even more, because the first route was by a team of French climbers I admire a lot !

Considering your comment (which I find very useful) I'm gonna improve the page into "World Greatest Mountain Faces"... this way it can be any direction ! ;o)

Thanks !!

I can't attach them...

for I wasn't the submitter, but I believe this is the most impressive wall in the whole Pyrenees:
It does have some tough climbing at the Couloir de Gaube (
