It was a windy and very chilly day in a camp at the foot of the Himalayan range, west of Xixa. Later on in the day the wind really picked up and the plume of clouds and snow was stretched out like a mad looking pennant, probably tens of kms long.

Yes, it's one of the usual "clear-sky-storms". It's common in fall and early winter. The jetstreams are of really high speeds and so are the ground winds.
The snow plumes blowing off the higher peaks can be dozens of km long.

Re: Great stuff........It was a very cold and windy, but nice November day. I was camping close to Gang Benchen right at the foot of the main Himalaya range. The following day I went to Xixa.
