Younts Peak-- Heart of the Wilderness

Younts Peak-- Heart of the Wilderness

Enlarge for better detail. A view from the summit of Pinnacle Butte NW. Younts Peak is the mountain on the right with the pyramid-shaped summit. It is considered by some measures to be the most remote mountain in the Lower 48. The shortest route to it is a 22-mile cross-country route that essentially crosses the country shown here. The flat-topped alpine territory in front of the peak is the Buffalo Plateau; in the foreground are the slopes of plateau-like Austin Peak. Absaroka Range, WY-- June 2009
