Zion National Park

Taken while hiking to Jug Handle Arch on the east side of Zion National Park. It's an unnamed mountain on the east side of the park. My hiking partner laughs when I keep laying down to take photos whereever there is a cool looking dead tree.

That's okay ...

You captured more than just the tree! What kind of tree - a juniper? Tanya, this is a
suggestion. How about posting your pet cat or dog, or are you allowed to have pets where you live? Just curious! Great photo, Tanya!!!

Re: That's okay ...

Why would I ever post a pet cat or dog on an outdoor hiking/climbing/etc... forum --- that would be like me posting my belly dance photos here. ;p

There was not much left of the tree --- but Utah Juniper works for me. ;)

We have a cat (just a tom cat that was for free on the steps of Walmart) - which I am very allergic too, but it still lives in the house and we have a few fish, but that's about it. There are lots of wild cats we feed though .. pretty ones too.

Re: That's okay ...

Oh, I didn't know! In Cyberspace, I just throw out my question, in hopes I get a response.
Sometimes, its kind of like throwing raw meat
out to lions. By wild cats, you don't mean cougars, do you??? In central Arizona, I have seen several Bobcats crossing roads. You'll ALWAYS find them around water! Thanks, Tanya!

Re: cool photo..

Thanks Dow! It was a good day for photography last weekend. Colder than heck though! I thought I had some really good ones of Aries Butte and South Ariel Peak but I was not all that pleased once I saw them, they were too dark.

Re: Incredible...

Thanks :)

I took that about a month ago, this winter, while we were hiking in Zion. I have to lay down and and use a dead tree for a frame whenever I spot one that works! ;p

Re: Incredible...

I am always looking for those kinds of opportunities as well. Nice job!

Re: Incredible...

Then if we hiked together we would never get anywhere with us both laying on the ground taking photos behind dead trees all the time. ~laughing~

Thanks :)

Re: Incredible...

:o) Last summer we hiked Mt. Handies as a family and my kids were very impatient with me. I think the hike took twice as long as it should have, but I got some great pictures.

Re: Incredible...

That is the problem with photos! It sure adds time onto the hike, but its fun to see what you bring back at the end of the day! My hiking partner will take off sometimes and explore things while I shoot away and other times he breaks out a camera too.

picture. Nice composition, and I like the way you framed to rock in the background with the juniper.

Re: Gorgeous...

Thanks! Zion seems to have those dead, awesome looking frames all over the place. :)
