Zygmunt Andrzej Heinrich and Jerzy Kukuczka

Maciej Pawlikowski and Maciej Berbeka made the first winter ascent of Cho Oyu (8188 m / 26,864 ft) (a new route via the SE Pillar) on 12 February 1985 (repeated three days later by Zygmunt Andrzej Heinrich and Jerzy Kukuczka). Both died four years later, Heinrich was swept away by an avalanche on the NW slopes of Everest, while a second-hand rope snapped on the South Face of Lhotse for Kukuczka.
