Great job, man. I thought I had a basic knowledge of the geology of the region but not to this degreee. I had no idea about the rift feature that formed the Lake Superior basin and the amount of volcanism that took place! You did a excellent job of mixing great info and presenting it in a very readable format. You've done the Keweenaw proud! This will be a page I refer back to again and again for certain.
thanks dan! i am glad to hear you liked it :)
the area is just so fascinating that i had to sit down and talk about it a little bit to somebody, and this seemed the most appropriate way to do it...
thanks for your comment :) perhaps i could throw together something like that...though it would not be nearly so unique and fascinating! the wildlife up here is pretty standard fare for the great northwoods: whitetails, black bear, wolves, mountain lions, moose, etc. but there are some fascinating critters out there :D
Outstanding article; thanks for your hard work. I do research in the western U.P. so this is very interesting to me. And the great thing about the area is that it's too far from the population centers for it to be crowded. You probably have "The Pocurpine Mountains Companion". If not, get it, you'll like it.
Very nice job. I haven't had that much UP history since 8th grade local history class! That area is really pretty great and there is some great ice-climbing and a bit of rock along that range too. Winter is awesome up there.

Good ArticleGood article about Michigan's most rugged territory. The Porkies and Keweenaw peninsula are definitely very unique and complex.

SynclineI particularly enjoyed the USGS illustration and your description of the Lake Superior syncline and how it ties Isle Royale to the U.P.
