August 22nd, 2010

I went up from Iffigenalp on this day of splendid weather in Switzerland via Blattihütte, Stierenläger and Rawilseeleni lakes to the Wildstrubel hut and continued to an elevation on the ridge surrounding the spectacular Glacier de la Plaine Morte, which is marked in the Swiss Federal Topographic map simply as "2884.8" - it's height in meters. The views to the entire Pennine Alps and Mont Blanc on one side and the Plaine Morte glacier, the massive bulk of the Wildstrubel and the western Bernese and Pays d'Enhaut mountains were superb!
The one snag about the ascent route is that you have to cope with the presence of a telepherique (which you can't even use, as it's only for material transport and those who are working for the Swiss civilian and military aeronautics supervision) with it's cables above you. Once past the Wildstrubel hut and the Weisshornlücke col though, one is in an awesome area...
