A Treasured Register Box
I'm on the summit of Black Kaweah (13,765'), a remote peak in the Sierra Nevada, holding the California Alpine Club metal box containing the peak's original register. The first entry in the register is in 1924. This fascinating register contains the 1929 signature of Walter Starr, Jr. in his own blood, for lack of a writing instrument. The signature and date are well maintained on the page. Our climb was July 19, 2008.
