A view east from Cascade Pass...

A view east from Cascade Pass down the Upper Stehekin River Valley. You can take a trail down that valley, then a road, all the way to Lake Chelan. Over a 100 years ago, this route and pass was scouted as a possible rail route through the Cascades. The route had always been used by the indians. Fortunately, the railroad never transpired. The biggest impediment was the steep-walled Lake Chelan. Thank god the railway never went through. It would have changed the character of this place markedly--for the worse. Mt. Booker is on the left; McGregor Mountain is at the end of the valley (right of center); Glory Mountain is at right. July 29, 2000.

Dreamy

Looks like a beautiful place to spend a sleepy afternoon. Nice.

Re: Dreamy

True dat! Except for one thing you'd have to contend with: hordes of touron locusts chattering away, including those little crickets called children. The place is very very popular for non-climbers out for a weekend day-trip.
