My Dorota and me in mountains

I met Dorota in the hut Chata pri Zelenom plese on August 15th 2004, sharing with her the same double bunk beds, during my first day in Slovakia and after my two first days in Poland (Zakopane). We had planned the same route going circularly around the Tatras by the south, and then we decided to walk together the whole week after. We are still walking together since then.
Most of the rest of my holidays was spent in Wroclaw instead of Cracow as initially planned. Then I came back to Poland several times during the autumn, which resulted in being fired from my job after the second time, and coming with a business suit an interviews the third time, for the company I am now still working for. For the story, the interview was on December 23th, and I knew I was moving to Poland few hours before the Sylvester party !
I live now for almost six years in this country. Dorota and me bought a flat in 2006, got married in 2008, and had a fantastic son, Nicolas, in November of the same year. We go now far away less often, but we've been walking many mountains together during these years: The Pyrenees of course, Tatras again and other Polish/Slovak/Czech mountains, Romania, Slovenia...
This album is a tribute to all the nice and crazy moments Dorota and me spent in mountains since we met.

Amazing coincidence !
Dorota and you also look great. Where do you live ? I saw that you were on Ben Macdhui in Scotland. I climbed it in 1999, great day.
Cheers,
Eric

Re: Sorry. Couldn't help myself when I saw this album...

I live in Nijmegen, and Dorota lives in Kraków. Met her when she was on an Erasmus programme here. She's originally from Łódź, and I hail originally from Detroit Lakes, MN, although I've spent very little time there. I did spent way too much time in Scotland, and are looking to return there once I've finished my degree.

Cheers,
Clint.

My Dorota is also Polish (Wroclaw) and I also met her in... Slovakia (in Tatras mountains more exactly). Now we both live in Wroclaw. Have you been in Tatras before ? You should like it. Come to visit Wroclaw also one day if you have the opportunity, it is as nice as Cracow.

Not yet;

But I'll be going out there in December. Dorota's folks have rented a house in Ząb (just outside of Zakopane) for the holidays...

I might remind you of that though, since I was planning on taking my old mountainbike out to Kraków sometime this winter (got myself a new one not long ago, and for Dorota it would be nice to have one as well; but considering she is 1.93 metres it's hard to get a proper bicycle for herself)

If you like to come out to Nijmegen; Ryanair has €10 flights from Wrocław to Nijmegen (Düsseldorf-Weeze). There is some great mountainbiking down here, including the only places in NL which have downhill runs...

Cheers,
Clint.

Re: Not yet;

I've passed Ząb by car once of twice I think. It's a quiet place a bit out of the rush of the crowded zakopane, with nice typical houses in the surrounding. You should like it...
As for biking in Krakow in December, it all depends on the weather but you should consider fixing a snowplow in front of it, or nailed tyres to ride on the surface of Vistula ;)
I've been in Nijmegen once to visit a friend who was, I think, student in the same place than you are (hydro-engineering studies). Yes, Netherlands is pretty flat ! I'd love to come here, as well as many places accessible from Wroclaw thanks to Ryanair (Scotland for example) but I'll be a dad in 2-3 weeks, so...
Anyway, have a nice time in Poland when you come and give me a sign if you are around Wroclaw !
