Allen Mountain

Allen Mountain

Allen Mountain from Lake Josephine North Shore Trail. A descent route exists down this side, but involves some tricky bushwhacking that likely cannot be avoided. Work down from the summit through cliffs and angle towards the drainage on the far left of the photo. Follow that drainage down, and find a place to traverse to the north, meandering between the thick forest to your left and cliffs to your right. Eventually, you'll have to bushwhack downhill a short distance to gain the Piegan Pass horse trail; it'll likely involve a cacophony of alder trees, but it's really the only viable way back to civilization from this point. No way in hell...!

Nice photo, and the lower two-thirds or so are very green, lush, and enticing. Talk about bushwhacking hell— I see hours and hours of struggle; I'm not sure you could pay me enough to take that route!

(But it is a nice shot....)

Re: No way in hell...!

yeah, it's pretty miserable. i actually made the mistake of heading down the large drainage on the right, and climbed down broken cliffs near the waterfall. about 30 minutes of an alder thicket maze down to the trail from there. i was VERY glad to finally be out!
