Alpine Chough on northern Grigna summit

Alpine Chough on northern Grigna summit

The only good photo from my first ascent to Northern Grigna on a f°°°ing cloudy day of 2008 summer. This guy didn't take care of the clouds, he is there everytime he wants. Lombardy. Italy.

GRANDE UCCELLO! ...

This guy is like a caretaker of the clouds,
but it must have been his day off.

We have the so-called "Red-Winged Blackbird"
here in Arizona. It would be great to grow
some wings, so you could ALWAYS fly above the
clouds!!! (Sigla e commovente di cielo?)

Perhaps this Blackbird found a half-filled
bottle of wine on the ground, and had to drink his fill of the wine on his break-time!!!

Salud ... (Larry from the arid faraway land of AZ)

Re: GRANDE UCCELLO! ...

Hi Larry I see your comment after 2 hours in a traffic jam, Now I really envy the freedom of this little guy and I will drink at his health! PS: red-winged blackbird? It looks like everything turns to red in the majesty of Arizona! Cheers Marco.

Surely...

...this is an Alpine Chough (Pyrrhocorax graculus), not a Blackbird (Turdus merula).

Nice shot though!

Re: Surely...

Thanks for the correction... and also for the vote.
"Cornacchia", that's how we usually call them here, blackbirds in fact are much smaller. The beak of this has a softer shape in respect to those of the other choughs, but may be it's just an impression. Cheers. Marco.

Re: Surely...

Actually, I knew it wasn't a blackbird all
along. Congratulations to Dan! Perhaps he
should receive a bottle of wine for his
intensive knowledge of birds!!! (Salud!!!)
