Amanita Muscaria var. Alba

Amanita Muscaria var. Alba

Amanita Muscaria var. Alba often grows near Birch trees. These fungi contain the two toxins ibotenic and muscimol. When ingested these toxins contain hallucinogenic properties but they can damage the liver and are potentially fatal. Photographed in Royal Basin, August 25, 2007.

Re: :)

Good question. Even though these mushrooms are poisonous, some people have been known to tempt fate and eat them anyway for their psychedelic effects. This seems like an unnecessary risk to me considering we have several other edible psychedelic mushrooms species that are indigenous to this area.

Re: wow

It was a lucky sighting for sure. The only time I have ever seen one.
