An avalanche rolling down the east side of Garganta

Photo taken just below Chopicalqui moraine camp. To climb the Huascarán peaks along the normal route, first you have to get to Garganta, the huge saddle between the two. The normal route up to the saddle is on the other side. That's not easy, and not without danger either, but having seen several big avalanches on the eastern side, I rather take my chances coming from the west. 16 August 2011.
