An example of one of the...
An example of one of the outstanding bristlecone pines (this one being merely a 4,000+ year old snag) found in the bristlecone pine grove at the north foot of Jeff Davis Peak. This particular pine was about 50 feet away from the famous (infamous?) Prometheus Tree--that pine that was felled some years back and discovered to be 4,900 years old. A sketch from my Kelsey book intimated this famous tree was located at the alpine edge of the grove so I purposely descended the north slope of Jeff Davis Peak to search for it. While I'm backing up to fill the camera frame in order to take this photo, I literally almost stumbled over the sawn remnants of Prometheus. Otherwise, I may have had to search another hour.

Voted 10/10

They thought the gods chained Prometheus to the Caucuses for teaching folks about fire. Perhaps he was chained to Basin Ranges for bringing them chainsaws
