Nice shot of St. Elmo's !

At 7400 ft, I'm guessing this pass has snow
well into August. My question is:

What is St. Elmo's named after? Does it have
anything to do with the fact that electrical
storms sometimes envelope the area? Or, is
it named after a famous character on
'Seseme Street?' Thanks. awesome photo !!!
