Big Boulder Lakes

Big Boulder Lakes

Here are a few of the Big Boulder Lakes as seen from Pt 10500'+ to the north. The two large lakes are Cove and Sapphire, the smaller ones in the distance are Gentian, Boulder and Snow Lakes. The tiny but beautiful Hook Lake is just visible on the left side of the photo, in front of Cove Lake. The pyramid shaped summit in the background is Peak 11272’, with Castle Peak over its left shoulder and Lonesome Peak over its right.

Re: Yesssss!

Thanks SR, glad you liked it. You’ll have to make a return trip to the White Clouds and check out this area.

Re: Yesssss!

I made first multi-night trip to this area several years ago, and will never forget how much there is to do in this basin. Like you mentioned on the WC page, it truely is a scramblers paradise! I remember wanting to climb this peak, but ended up settling for it's little brother on the left, peak 10881 and WCP 9 the next day.

Re: Big Boulder Lakes

Thanks. I got lucky with the timing. A couple weeks later and the snow would've been nearly gone. A couple weeks earlier and the wildflowers wouldn't have been blooming yet.

Re: These...

Thanks Romek. The lakes are usually even more colorful when the sun is out. But the skies were pretty overcast the day I took this photo.
Cheers, Dave

Familiar shot...

Found your shot and immediately recognized the image: I took a shot from nearly the exact same spot in Aug. 2001.. Funny to see them side by side, mine is sans snow.

Re: Familiar shot...

Yes, very distinctive to those who have been in the area.

Here's a link to some more views you might recognize.

Mountains are not just for climbing!

These lovely places are beautifully depicted in all the photos I have seen on this site. I love fishing the lakes in these places though - even more than scrambling up the peaks.

I hiked up to the base of Castle Peak in the White Clouds last summer (2015) with my dog, but was disappointed that the only lake I had time to fish in showed no signs of supporting a population of trout.

I would love it if all the visitors to these places would make note of whether they saw any fish rising or being caught during your visit. Thanks!
