Bighorn Sheep Beneath the Garden Wall

Bighorn Sheep Beneath the Garden Wall

Seen along the Highline Trail between Logan Pass and Granite Park Chalet. This sheep and others were almost within petting distance, but I wasn't taking chances with those horns. Glacier National Park, MT-- August 2003

Thanks...

for the great photo. I wonder if I have the same ram in some of my shots? None of mine are like this. Mostly groups shots from a distance. I have added it to the Big Horn page.

Re: Thanks...

This one was in a group of several right off the trail. They were on a ledge just a few feet above me and really didn't care about me. I am used to mountain goats being so tolerant, but not bighorns. Maybe these were Logan Pass regulars who had strayed a little! It was quite a morning though-- three grizzlies (including two cubs), then some mule deer on the trail, then the bighorns, and finally some mountain goats (which also let me get practically next to them).

Re: Thanks...

I love days like that. I have had a few days that stand out in my memory. One day I during archery season I saw like 35 elk and 7 black bears. Awesome day.
