Broad Peak 2007

It is the best page with good detail informations. Please add Broad Peak 50th Summit Anniversary in 2007, almost all the commercial organizer including ours will run 50th Anniversary Expedition on Broad Peak in 2007.

Re: Well done.

Thanks Steste.
I'm glad you like the page.
The 8000m peaks all have such a long and interesting history and it's difficult to know how much info you should add. I was also lucky to get help and input from one of the first ascenders, Fritz Wintersteller.

He has helped me out with some interesting info. Can you ask for a better source? :)

Very good article.

I especially enjoyed the various pics of camps on the flanks of the peak. Also, the section on Buhl was interesting.

Question

Hi! Great page, excellent work. I am planning to climb Broad Peak in the summer of 2015. I have 3 local companies that I am negotiating with to obtain services and prices. I am not looking for high altitude porters just base camp support. I was wondering if you had any information on fixed ropes. I read that we could pay other teams to use their ropes. Is this what you did or did your guiding company provide fixed ropes. If my research is right there would be 3 roped sections 1st leading to C1, the second between C1 and C2 in a rocky area and third the final ridge that leads to the summit ridge. If you can share any information regarding the ropes I would really like to have your input. Thank you ! Sergio

Winter Ascent

Broad Peak has also been attempted in the winter. The rocky summit (lower part of main summit) (8,016 meters) was climbed in the winter by Maciej Berbeka of Zakopane, Poland in 1988. Maciej mistook this summit for the main summit in poor weather. In 2003, a Spanish team attempted a winter ascent, but were turned back by extreme wind and cold. Several camps were destroyed, but luckily no-one perished.

Broad Peak was climbed in winter on March 5 2013.
