Started out with a local dog in tow, but he eventually turned around before the end of the road. I encountered 6 inches - 1 foot of snow in spots which made seeing the ducks a little difficult. But, taking my time, I was able to follow them all the way and avoid any unnecessary bushwhacking. Continued on Ken Point.

3 day HPS sweep with Bob Burd. Peak #12 of 18 -- eighth one of the day. Pretty easy to find the east route off the 4WD road after Ken Point. Harder part was the end of the descent and stumbling around until we accidentally ran into the Prospector's Trail. With minimal daylight remaining, we bailed on Rock Point until next morning.

Followed the "Prospectors Trail". Climbed both summits, but didn't find a register.

NavySeabeeDirectionally Challenged?  Sucess!

As I usually hike solo, I didn't have my lovely bride telling me to pull over and ask for directions. I think the iron deposit in my nose was a little off-kilter this day. Luckily, this day fell short of epic, but if I can summarize it in two words they would be "SOUTH RIDGE!!"

Took off rather hap-hazardly with only the HPS directions which were great at getting me to Gold Hill, but after that, they fell short. There are numerous mining roads, spur trails, 4-foot ducks (the killer con), horse tracks and the like that lead you to the ridge coming off the western side. I think I hit every single one looking for a mine shaft and some ducks leading the way, but no cigar. Finally gave up and was heading over towards Rock Point and I had an epiphany. I wonder if the directions were supposed to lead me to the long south ridge heading off the mountain? Hmmm... Well, that's the key. Followed the roads towards the mine(s) on my topo (duh, I know) and everything else is as Deb has decribed. Once I finally made it to the summit rocks, I didn't look too hard for the register as I was just relieved to make it there after logging nearly 7 miles! Did find it interesting that there was a helicopter sitting on the summit immediately to the north.

Last detail. As I headed towards Rock Point, it seems like a shorter route to Butterfly would be to head right at the fork SE of Gold Hill vice left as the HPS directions describe. The roads circumnavigate the hill so you won't go astray (like I did!!)

Dave DalyTag Team: The Deb And Dave Show  Sucess!
Date Climbed: Oct 14, 2007

After scrambling up Rock Point, exploring an old mine, checking out a new winter climbing area (Prospect Wall) and oogling at dozen upon dozens of bouldering problems, this peak was the icing on the cake. Another fine episode with The Deb And Dave Show! (post season show celebration was held at Paradise Crossroads Cafe).

Peak 2 1/2 of the day; we hit the true summit first and decided the peak furthest west looked more important....scrambled on that for awhile, then hit the true summit again to sign the register. Beautiful peak to relax and play on, the weather, the view and partner were perfect. :)
