C & O Canal Reflection

Great Falls, C & O Towpath October 2, 2010 This particular peaceful area is found in a place known as "Widewater" which indicates a natural wide basin where the barges were able to pass in the canal. Today hikers, bikers, walkers, all enjoy the Billy Goat Trail and other hikes in this area along the towpath of the historic Chesapeake and Ohio Canal, completed in 1850 after 22 years of work and mishap, and operated for 73 years between Georgetown and Cumberland, MD.
