Cactus flowers

Cactus flowers

Adding color to a rather bleak hillside, these blooms on a cactus really made my day. On Peak 6323 near the Pony Express trail west of Lookout Pass. 6-25-11

Lookout Pass ...?

So, you finally made it up to Lookout Pass?

I remember driving that road when I lived in
Dugway in 1981.

I remember it being dusty and wide open.
Kind of like a No Man's Land, where there
were more deer and wild horses than men.

Suppose it has an abundance of moisture this
year, thus the bountiful cacti blooms.

Can't wait to get up there in July!

Re: Lookout Pass ...?

Larry, I thought you might like the color of these cactus flowers. I have probably been out to Lookout Pass now a dozen times as I have chased peaks in the western desert. I really like the area. July is almost here.

Re: Lookout Pass ...?

Have you ever been out to Topaz Mountain,
about 50 miles west of Lynndyl ?

Somebody needs to put up a page for that one.

Some rock hounding clubs are well aware of
its existence, being it's of volcanic origin
with the chance of finding topaz crystals
lodged in the ancient rock layers.

Do you ever find interesting fossils and
crystals in Utah's Outback? Geodes ???

Re: Lookout Pass ...?

Topaz mountain is on my "to do" list. I would like to take my wife out there as she is a rockhound and it is an area that certainly is popular with that group. I also would like to visit Ibex and an area called "the barn". So much to see and do in Utah and nearby Nevada.
