I'm headed out to the Sierra's next Friday. I have a very similar trip planned, 8 days of solo backpacking and scrambling, including Whitney, 120 miles and 30,000 feet of elevation change. Thanks for sharing!
Day 1/2 I'll be in Pioneer Basin. I'll drop my pack and pick a peak. Day 3 I'll be in the Ancienct Bristlecone Pine Forest, so will do White Mountain Peak just to say I did. Day 4 is Whitney by the Mountaineer's Route, and I'll go down the trail so I can bag Mt. Muir on the way by. Day 5/6 I'll be by Lake Reflection and will pick out a peak or two from there. Day 7 is El Cap via the El Cap gully!
Thanks man. I've actually had a couple others with way more mileage, but also mostly less technical stuff. Will have to see about trip reports for them sometime.
Now that's a Sierra tour de force. I've made it to the same exposed crux move on Unicorn Peak three times (twice with the intention of getting by it, and once to show my wife why I wasn't able to!) The south summit provides spectacular views though. Good job.
Thanks! Yeah, it's pretty intimidating looking, same with the south summit of Tresidder. One of those things where you just have to go for it, I guess. Hopefully I won't skip it if I'm there again.
