Solo northeast ridge
I parked my Prius at the horse trailer (winter) lot and hiked to camp near the lake. Fortunately, I planned for an extra day as it snowed and rained the first night and the next day. I was up before dawn and all was clear on the third day for the climb. Though the northwest face of the peak was snow-dusted, the sun dried the ridge and ascent route. It rained and snowed in the afternoon but I was already safely back at camp.

A Capitol Time
Backpacked into Capitol Lake. Summit then packed out to the car. Trailhead accessible for Subaru Outback. Extremely fun climb. 3 points of contact and test them holds. Great weather really was a plus for this one. 56/58.

Finisher!
A little over 14 years after climbing my first 14er in Colorado (Pikes Peak on June 21, 2009), I finished with a solo climb of Capitol as #58.

Loved and had no issue from K2 to the summit and back. That talus/boulder field from the saddle to K2 was hell for me there and back. Especially back.

08/18/20 w/Cory Martin. Beautiful day up on Capitol. No wind, perfect temps. Super fun scrambling, not as scary or difficult as advertised

13hr Day Climb
Many blogs "cry wolf" and deter climbing Capitol Peak but found this to be a fine class-4 alpine hike. The 3-mile Ditch trail is nice to wake up to at 4 am. Felt similar to nearby Snowmass with accessible parking, free ranging cattle, grassy hills, and aspen forests . NE ridge route above the talus fields was clear of ice. Watch out if directly downclimbing K2 as it cliffs out. Gloves were more appropriate than micro spikes. Helpful trip times: 3hrs to Capitol Lake basin, 2hrs to K2, 1.5hrs to summit. Descent 6hrs. Streams are low. Excellent 14'er!

Great adventure
Did a two day backpack. Would recommend staying an extra day to enjoy the area as it is an absolutely amazing area. Climb was great fun. Will do it again at some point. Highly recommend, just be prepared mentally and physically. Enjoy!
This one was fun, glad I waited until I was ready. Definitely consistently harder than Little Bear or Pyramid. Just me and one other party (climber and guide) on the route, it was nice to get some solitude and climb my own climb.

Winter ascent via knife-edge
Powdery snow, nice weather, engaging climbing, a real workout! Approached via snowshoes from W Snowmass, camped near small pond below Moon Lake, summit and hiked out second day. Full value!

Northeast Ridge
#1 8-30-18 W/ Ling, Scott & Lana. Long day, good weather and very satisfying to stand on the summit after having this daunting beast on my radar for several years. Thanks to my climbing partner for thoughtful input and positive company. We found most of the cairns after the knife edge quite helpful.

#36 Easily done in a day if you don't mind hiking in a cow pie river
Didn't disappoint. Still tons of snow on the standard route and didn't bring traction/ice axe so I successfully scrambled up the walls to the right to connect with the infamous ridge. Pretty fast that way too. Use your best judgement!
