From L to R - Riccardo Cassin, Ugo Tizzoni and Gino Esposito (the guy with the rope coil and the ice axe) reach the Boccalatte hut around mid day, August 7th, 1938. The day before, they had complete the first ascent of the Walker Spur of the Grandes Jorasses

Riccardo Cassin has died at 23pm of August 6th 2009, exactly 71 years (minus 7 hours) after summiting Grandes Jorasses.

I had never seen a photo of Riccardo Cassin when he was young. This is a photo to be treasured.
Thanks for posting.
BTW, Riccardo Cassin also did one of the greatest alpine climbs in America. He did the Cassin Ridge on Denali.
