Chiesetta di Santa Maria Santissima della Fiducia

Chiesetta di Santa Maria Santissima della Fiducia

This small church was built in the 60's on the southern slopes of Monte Piana ( where the italians had their headquarters during the WWI ) in memory to all the 14000 men of both armies that died on the mountain fighting the most terrible war ever fought, the First World War. Inside the church there's an icon of the Virgin Mary and at her sides two soldiers, one italian and one austrian.

I wish...

...we were able of such a reconciliation in Slovenia. I guess that conflicts which are within one nation are more severe.

Re: I wish...

I agree with you, the First World War was terrible but I don't think there was that kind of hate among men that you had in Yugoslavia.

Re: I wish...

Although bloody and inhuman, the 1st World War had some basic rules, which had respected the dignity of the man, more exactly of the soldiers. When the hatreds of ordinary people are involved in the conflict, such reconciliations are extremely more difficult to achieve. I viscerally disdain all forms of nationalisms and deplore politicians and other public men, who up to date disseminate the chauvinistic feelings and political animosities. For this reason I am very happy to see such signs of international friendship as that Chiesetta. Chiesetta della Fiducia! Si, la fiducia manca, fiducia tra i popoli.
Ciao, Andrej
