When we climbed this in March 2011, there was a newish sign closing off the historic trail for restoration. This trail goes to the right of the final outcropping. From the top looking down, it looks like a direct, easy scramble more or less straight up.
But again, it's *closed* in 2011. I don't know which route was open in 2004 when this page was made.
So the route now goes up the slate fins to the summit. It seems a bit less steep as a scramble but longer, and going against the grain of the rock -- which is uplifted to nearly 90 degrees and then tilted to the side. The tilt forces you into some sections with more exposure than the old route, as near as I can tell.
