Clear route markers - provided there is no snow
The arrow shows a change in direction of the trail. And did you notice that cairn up there? You can see the trail itself as well, but without the marker, you might mistakenly go straight ahead, as that sort of looks like a trail too.
Obviously, with snow cover, all these clues won't help you much ...
