Conquistador..

Conquistador..

The most famous journey ever made in search of treasures in the New World was led by the Spanish Conquistador Francisco Vázquez de Coronado. Seeking the fabled Seven Golden Cities of Cibola, his expedition of 1,400 men and 1,500 animals found only poor Indian villages, but established Spain's later claim to the entire Desert Southwest. This is the view west of Page, Arizona, looking out over the desert sands at the Echo Cliffs and Paria River Primitive Area drainage. "Conquistador a vulture sits, upon your silver shield. And in your rusty scabbard now, the sand has taken seed..." May 22, 2010

I always like...

... to read your captions Larry. Sometimes I wonder where you come up with those stories. Anyhow, that journey sure was "famous" but whether it was "good" (in a very broad historical context) is another question... like every other journey during that age of exploration (in my opinion). Thanks for giving me that little distraction at work though :)

Re: I always...

Just can't control myself.

I thought the "Good Old Days" were supposed to be good, but in the "historical" context, they were probably more foolish than good.

Glad you caught the drift of my caption.

It keeps me searchin' for a "Heart of Gold."

And though I

hope for something to find
I can see no maze to unwind.

Re: Conquistador

... there is no time,
I must pay my respect.
And though I came to jeer at you,
I leave now with regret.
