| Hiked/scrambled up this excellent peak with my gf on Thanksgiving. Took a short rope and rack in case we encountered the 5th class climbing we were warned about (park rangers described it as 5.6-5.7)... didn't use the rack at all, and I only got the rope out to belay my gf in one place on the ascent. We didn't use the rope at all on the way down. Most was class 3 with a couple of class 4 moves near the bottom of the scrambling section.
Good views along the upper reaches of the trail towards El Sapo, Cerro de las Mitras, and Cerro de la Silla, and spectacular views from the summit towards the Sierra Madre. Mountains upon mountains and miles of wilderness unfold all of a sudden--completely unexpected. |
