via Cove Mountain trail from Sugarlands
Almost all the roads in GSMNP were closed this morning due to snow and ice. I drove to the Sugarlands VC and parked for the hike up Cove Mountain via the Cove Mountain Trail. Headed down via Laurel Falls Trail and then hiked the road back to the car. Beautiful hike in the snow with colorful leaves still clinging to some of the trees.
Above Laurel Falls, we had the trail to ourselves. We returned via the Sugarlands Visitor Center.

Beautiful autumn hike
It was cold that day, but still warm enough for the light coating of ice on many of the trees at higher elevations to melt. The waterfall was beautiful, as were many of the trees that still had leaves.
