| Fun dayhike to Chuckwalla first then to Cross. Ran out of water, a bit parched by the time we got back to the cars. | |

| Hiked up from the trailhead south of Chuckwalla to the saddle and down into the wash that leads to the base of Cross Mountain. Steep ascent to the summit via the south ridge. Returned the same way to the saddle south orf Chuckwalla. Climbed Chuckwalla and returned to the car. Beautiful sunny day with some strong gusts in the afternoon. Wildflowers were plenty and beautiful. | |

| A cold and windy day. The route from Chuckwalla is a nice change of pace from the usual monotonous hike-up-the-trail-hike-back-down routine, since once you drop down into the drainage west of Chuckwalla you are completely unaware of civilization (OK, there are a bunch of motorcycle tracks, but other than that...), and it's all cross-country. The 4x4 road to the shoulder of Chuckwalla makes for an interesting vehicle approach. | |
