Crown Butte

Crown Butte

Crown Butte is one of the most difficult-to-reach summits on public lands in Nebraska. Major forest fires in 2012 have increased the difficulty to access Crown Butte. Crown Butte is the most significant summit in the Ponderosa Wildlife Management Area

Re: What burned?

This area was one of the hardest-hit areas in the major fires of 2012. except for a few small pockets, all trees were destroyed. Before the fires, I would have said the hike through Ponderosa WMA out to Crown Butte was the most epic hike/climb in Nebraska. Until the state has the means to clean up the Ponderosa WMA post-fire hazards, people should avoid this area
