| Mike and I left Badwater in the early morning to hike to our bicycles we had left on Dante's View the night before. Then the snow started. 100 yd visibility. Inadequate clothing. Road closed (due to snow). No map. No compass. Overall, a great time! We gained valuable experience in exchange for some quality discomfort. | |

| Edit--February 22, 2012: Although I had forgotten about writing the note below, I managed to stand atop the Dante BM at sunrise ocassionally glancing down at about a dozen photographers below at the parking lot. Next time I'll have to make it over to Perry, which I would have done if I had bothered to eat and drink anything prior to bounding up the trail. We approached Dantes View about 30 minutes before sunset on an immaculate, partly cloudy day with a snow storm moving in (the road up was closed the next morning and for the rest of my visit to DV). I looked up to my right from where I parked and strongly considered jogging up. Instead I spent a similar amount of time and energy playing with my kids in the area down trail from the parking lot. I had Andy Zdon's book and could have checked SP, but hey, even more so than Bob, my mind was heavily influenced by who I was with. Besides, we were on our way back into DV after a detour to Vegas to get new tires (the tread flew off one the day before near Scotty's Castle). Now that I have educated myself, I'll be sure to hit some highpoints next time up there. | |

| I woke on the day after the Shorty's Well->Telescope climb, feeling pretty good... but not THAT good. This side excursion fit the bill for a short hike with a good view of the previous day's escapade. There are some nice steep, private cliffs on the N side of the peak. This hike is also mentioned in Andy Zdon's book. | |
