I'm not looking for any prizes for this shot. My intention is to show anyone intending to do this route what they're in for.

I did try to improve this shot with software without success. Failure to do so is most probably down to my ignorance in such matters. Conditions right where I took the shot - west facing at ~3pm - were incredibly bright and I took the photo at f8 and 1/2000s (ASA 100). Naturally the valley is going to be completely underexposed. I thought I did well getting anything at all.

If there's anything obvious I could do to get a better shot in such conditions do please let me know.

Just as an aside, by the way, "darkness" is maybe the best thing to see below. The extent of clearcut logging in the Cameron River valley below is devasting! Ever more junk mail to clutter up your mailbox.
