The first part up the East Ridge of Buck Mountain is easy class 3 (see dark blue line leading up on the right). The first possible place to bail over to the East Face is class 3 (see horizontal blue line). Later on, after some class 4 scrambling, the short class 5 pitch (in red) can be avoided by taking a less obvious route across the cliffs to meet back up with the East Face route (vertical blue line on the left). 8/16/12
